Manitoulin man charged with sexual assault

Ontario Provincial Police has charged a Manitoulin Island resident following an investigation of an allegation of sexual assault.

Staff Sergeant Carolle Dionne out of Orillia OPP headquarters says they received information from an individual who had been the victim of sexual assault in 2019.
She says because of the investigation, members of the OPP Criminal Investigation Branch (CIB) have charged a 44-year-old man from Manitowaning with sexual assault.

Dionne says if anyone has information regarding the investigation, they are urged to call the OPP non-emergency number at 1-888-310-1122 or, if they wish to remain anonymous, contact Crime Stoppers.

She adds the OPP will not comment further on specifics of this matter as that information is before the courts and a publication ban is in place to prevent revealing information pertaining to the victim or their identity.

 

OPP charge Elliot Lake man following a collision

The East Algoma OPP was called out to a vehicle in the ditch on Wednesday morning around 2:30 am near Manitoba Road and Brunswick Walk in Elliot Lake.

OPP Constable Phil Young says witnesses reported a vehicle travelling on Hillside Drive South at a high rate of speed, and not abiding by traffic signals or signage.

He says the vehicle continued through a downtown parking lot but eventually came to rest when it crashed into the ditch.

Young adds following the investigation an 86-year-old Elliot Lake man has been charged with careless driving.
