Police in Espanola believe a discarded cigarette is the cause of a grass fire in a wooded area near Avery Drive. The local fire department put the flames out quickly before they could spread to area homes. Police believe a young person who was with a group of others threw the lit cigarette into the grass. Police weren’t able to charge anyone for the fire but because the young people were on private property, they’ve all been charged with trespass.
