Manitoulin man faces multiple charges following intense search

A Manitoulin Island man is facing multiple assault charges following a domestic dispute call on Manitoulin Island.

OPP Constable Phil Young says police were called by the complainant who stated they feared for their safety after a verbal and physical altercation.

He says officers went to a residence on Highway 540 in Evansville late Sunday afternoon to investigate, but the man had already left on an ATV.

Young says a search ensued with several OPP units activated including canine, the OPP helicopter and crisis negotiators.

He adds the 32-year-old from Burpee has been charged with spousal assault, assault causing bodily harm, spousal assault with a weapon, careless use of a firearm and three counts of breach.

Young says the name of the accused will not be released to protect the identity of the alleged victim.
