Blind River undertakes budget process

There could be an increase in taxes for Blind River taxpayers with the 2021 budget process now underway.

Town treasurer Sue Dent says she hopes to present a draft budget to council by December third.

She says there are several buildings on a priority list that will have to be considered in the town’s five-year capital budget, including the fire hall, arena, courthouse, tourist information centre, public works and the town hall itself.

She says on the positive side there looks to be a slight decrease in OPP costs and she expects three major sections: MPAC assessment fees, and Algoma Public Health and the Algoma District Services Administration Board remaining the same as this year.

Dent says there could be an increase of two to 3.8 percent in next year’s budget.

She expects council should be able to finalize the budget by January.
