Espanola council rename a ball field after Roberta Vincent

A late woman’s contributions to women’s softball and slo-pitch have been acknowledged by Espanola council.

Council unanimously agreed to have B Field at the Red McCarthy Memorial Ball Fields be named the Roberta Vincent Memorial Ball Diamond.

Vincent, who died in 2011, is well known for her over 30 years of contributions to baseball starting in the 1970s.

Not only is she reputed to be one of the top pitchers in ladies’ fastball, but she also held both longstanding executive and coaching positions helping hundreds of young women discover the love of baseball.

Signage was also approved to be installed at the field to mark the honour.
