Elliot Lake council to consider transit request

Several business owners have signed a petition to have an additional bus stop adding in the vicinity of the lower plaza, a major shopping core in Elliot Lake.

Darryl Halloch, the director of Public Works says the petition signed by 16 business owners and the Elliot Lake Food Bank will be presented at a council meeting this evening.

In his report, he states currently passengers are picked up at the bus stop located on Nova Scotia Walk located in front of the Family Health Centre.

However, he adds the business owners are concerned customers with mobility issues are forced to walk through the busy parking area and up a set of stairs to reach it.

He plans to ask the council tonight to allow a further investigation and to also find out from AJ Bus Lines if a new stop would result in significant time delays in the current schedule for their routes through the area.

The meeting is slated for 7:00 tonight.
