A look at the numbers
The COVID-19 trend continues to rise in Ontario, with more than 15-hundred new diagnoses reported for Sunday and Monday.
Provincial health officials say there were 807 new diagnoses yesterday, and 746 on the holiday Monday.
That’s pushed the daily average number of cases to more than 716 over the past week.
Locally, there has been one case reported by Public Health Sudbury & Districts in the City of Sudbury.
The cause is being attributed to community spread and the individual is in self-isolation.
Premier Doug Ford says he has no plans to expand restrictions to nearby regions, as their case numbers rise.
He’s hoping people will stick to public health protocols to bring the numbers back down.
The number of people being treated in the hospital also continues to rise, with 230 now being reported.
Health officials say 60 of them are in intensive care.
 A second university outbreak
A second university is reporting a coronavirus outbreak among students in residence.
Wilfrid Laurier University in Waterloo isn’t saying how many cases they have, but those living on two floors of a student residence have been ordered to self-isolate for 14 days.
Over the weekend, Western University in London reported four cases of COVID-19 in residence and dozens of students are being monitored.
Porter Airlines remains grounded
Porter Airlines will remain grounded until at least mid-December.
The airline has extended its shutdown another five weeks, due to the emergence of the second wave of COVID-19 infections.
The airline’s CEO says it’s unlikely that travel restrictions will be eased any time soon, so the aircraft’s fleet will remain in the hangar.
Porter originally suspended its services on March 21st.
It’s hoping that accurate rapid testing at airports will soon allow more people to fly.
