Sudbury car rally successful promoting changes to long-term care

Nickel Belt MPP and Ministry of Health critic France Gelinas was at a car rally in Sudbury yesterday morning calling for better care of not only long-term care residents but also the workers that take care of them.

Gelinas says health care staff, especially personal support workers need full-time work, decent pay, benefits, pension plan and a workload that a human can handle.

She adds long-term care home inspections need to be carried out more often with 78,000 vulnerable Ontarians living in the 626 homes.

Gelinas is also calling on the government to eliminate for-profit homes and take on the responsibility of taking care of the most vulnerable sector of society.

The rally organized by the Ontario Health Coalition was just one of several held throughout the province yesterday.
