The Prospector sculpture to be installed in Elliot Lake

Today is a big day for the City of Elliot Lake with the installation of the final life-size statue at the Elliot Lake Miner’s Memorial.

The Prospector is the final statue produced by Laura Brown Breetvelt who grew up in the city.

Recreation director Darla Hennessey says a more formal ceremony for the installation will be held later in the fall, but for now, the statue will be installed today on the southeast end of the Memorial site located just off of Highway 108 – Vimy Ridge Highway on the shores of Horne Lake.

The City council hired Beamish Construction to erect the statue approving $27,500 for the work involved in ensuring it is permanently and safely installed on the site.
