Dedication held in McKerrow: Honouring Golden, Arnold, Byers and Mathie

Reveille and the Last Post were part of a special dedication ceremony held late yesterday afternoon in the Township of Baldwin.

Baldwin Township Mayor Vern Gorham thanks family and friends for coming out to the dedication of a memorial tree and plagues in honour of four local area men.

The newest memorial tree is dedicated to former Reeve and councillor Dennis Golden who served on the council for several decades and was a dedicated veteran and local volunteer.

Golden died in August after a battle with cancer.

Gorham also noted the township updated the other three memorial trees with plaques to honour their service.

They include Corporal Glen Arnold of McKerrow and Private Dave Byers of Espanola who died in 2006 as a result of an attack by a suicide bomber in Afghanistan, as well as long-time road superintendent Jim Mathie.

Following the dedication and prayers by Espanola Royal Canadian Legion President and Chaplain, Gary McPherson, local musician Jodi Bourcier provided the time-honoured Reveille and Last Post to close the ceremony.
The surviving wives and mothers were also presented with flowers in memory of their loved ones.
