Elliot Lake council discusses back up power system for city hall

Elliot Lake’s Director of Public Works, Daryl Halloch, discussed the purchase of an electric generator and surge protection systems large enough to power city hall at the meeting this week.

Halloch says in the 2016 Building Condition Assessment an upgrade of the electrical panels was a priority adding the building has no back-up power.

Council had already approved $30,000 for the upgrades, but Halloch says he needs $80,000 to hire Sault Ste. Marie’s N-Sci Technologies in assisting city staff with the bidding process and to finish the project.

Halloch adds the company is ready to go, but time is of the essence in getting the bidding process going to ensure a concrete pad can be constructed before winter.

However, council said no to the additional $50,000 directing Halloch to carry out the research and Request for Proposals, which members will review once that process is completed.

They did agree to the hiring of the company.
