East Algoma OPP conducting death investigation

East Algoma OPP is investigating a possible drowning.

OPP Constable Bev Gauthier says on Saturday at around 2:30 pm, officers, the OPP Emergency Response Team and OPP Canine responded to a report of an overturned boat on Sawbill Lake in Root Township.

She says a group of six fishermen paired up and launched two canoes and a 12-foot aluminum boat on Sawbill Lake.

Gauthier says a short time later the aluminum boat tipped to the side and both occupants fell into the water.

While one of the occupants of the boat made it to shore, she says the other occupant was not located.

Gauthier adds a search was carried out on Sunday and the body of 62-year-old Manfred Reinholtz of Aweres Township was found.

She says a post-mortem is expected to take place in Sault Ste. Marie on October 5th and the investigation is ongoing.
