Elliot Lake library reopening, well, sort of

Residents in Elliot Lake will have access to library services, but not the facility quite yet.

Elliot Lake Library Board Chair Greg Lawrence says the repairs to the Elliot Lake Public Library located in the Pearson Plaza are now complete and that means they can phase in the re-opening of the facility.

The facility had been closed early in the year due to roof leaks, not the pandemic.

He says the City has reviewed and approved final engineering reports and has granted an occupancy permit, effective yesterday.

Lawrence says in consideration of staff and public safety, and in accordance with guidelines from the Algoma Public Health Unit, they will begin reopening with curbside pickup.

He adds customers can place items on hold through the online catalogue on the website or by telephone, and the selected items will be put in a bag and placed on a table outside the library’s main doors.

He adds their plans are evolving and any changes will be made public as the reopening process continues.
