Sagamok-Anishnawbek First Nation elects new chief

Sagamok-Anishnawbek First Nation has elected a new chief and council.

The First Nation’s new chief, Alan Ozawanimki ran for both Chief and Council and won both seats.

Under their electoral system, members of the community can run for both positions.

While he can maintain his position as Councillor, he is a sitting member-only and has no vote in that position.

He defeated Nelson Toulouse 287 to 187 votes.

Toulouse had served a two-year term.
