Elliot Lake Councillor Ed Pearce surprised council last night asking that his motion to establish a committee to look at naming streets be withdrawn.
Pearce had proposed the city to establish a committee to examine the possibility of renaming some public roads, establishing names for new or unnamed roads, and naming public buildings to honour the people who have contributed so much to the well-being of the community.
Pearce asked to make a statement about his decision, but following municipal statute, if a motion is withdrawn, no discussion is to take place.
