Applications open for helping special need students re-enter the system

Students will face some stress with going back to school this September and even more so for students with special needs.

Rainbow District School Board Senior Advisor Nicole Charette says to help special needs students focus on reestablishing familiarity with routines and help them deal with the stress of returning to the school environment programs are being put in place.

She says the board is currently accepting applications for students from Year 2 of Kindergarten to Grade 12.

Charette says parents have until this Friday to apply and will be contacted if their child is selected.

The programs will be offered in person from 9 am to noon from Monday, August 24 to Friday, August 28, 2020, in a location to be determined.

The programs will also connect with mental health providers, where required.

There will be no focus on academics.

Transportation will not be provided.

Due to the pandemic, all participants will be required to follow health and safety protocols.  Staff and students will receive personal protective equipment.
