Espanola council putting motion on the table outlawing feeding wild animals

A proposed bylaw outlawing the feeding of wild animals is up for discussion at tonight’s Espanola council meeting.
Councillor Heather Malott brought the matter to the council’s attention last month when several neighbours related concerns about the feeding of pigeons and squirrels on a site on Tudhope Street.
She felt the matter should be dealt with as quickly as possible and the council agreed, directing staff to research a bylaw for the town.
The detailed proposed statute is recommended by the bylaw officer and will be tabled and reviewed by the council tonight.
The proposal stipulates the only exception will be bird feeders, which must be maintained by homeowners to prevent other wildlife from being attracted to individual properties.
The meeting will be live-streamed at 7:00 pm.
