Nurses rally in Sudbury

Nurses from across the local region are gathering in Sudbury to rally against legislation passed last
November that they want to be exempted from.
Nickel Belt MPP and the NDP’s Health Critic, France Gélinas, says she will join the nurses this morning at
the rally to bring awareness about Bill 124-Protecting a Sustainable Public Sector for Future Generations
Act.
The legislation enables the government to manage public sector compensation while protecting front-
line services and it is not supposed to impede the collective bargaining process or impact existing
collective agreements.
However, Gélinas says the nurses want their own bargaining power and are seeking an exemption from
the legislation.
She says the group will gather in the parking lot across from the Sudbury Arena at 11:00 am and will
march up to the Bridge of Nations together.
