Elliot Lake council installing statue at memorial

The installation of the last of a trilogy of sculptures at the Elliot Lake’s Miner’s Memorial will complete the tribute to Elliot Lake, its miners and the uranium industry.

Merrickville, Ontario-based sculptor Laura Brown Breetvelt has completed the final piece called The Prospector according to City CAO Daniel Gagnon.

He says it is a full-sized metal work representing a uranium prospector who is searching for the mineral in the area of Elliot Lake.

Gagnon adds council gave approval at yesterday’s meeting to pay Beamish Construction $27,000 to install the statue at the unused southern portion of the site located on Highway 108 beside Horne Lake.

He says it should be installed in time for viewing in early summer.
