City of Elliot Lake clarifies beach and pool status

Despite the Ontario government go-ahead to open certain facilities, there will be some in Elliot Lake that will not be opening right away.
Elliot Lake council decided Monday night to allow Spine and Spruce beaches to open as soon as they can safely do so.
CAO Daniel Gagnon says usually the lifeguards begin patrolling after July 1st, but he says they will require additional training and equipment to deal with the COVID-19 protocols.
Staff laid off at the municipal pool in March is being recalled to see if they are willing to return to work as lifeguards in a pandemic setting.
Gagnon emphasizes physical distancing must be maintained.
The municipal pool, splash pad and high-touch structures in playgrounds will remain closed for the time being.
