Nursing a challenge these days

It is International Nursing Day and it is also the 200th anniversary of Florence Nightingale’s birthday. Tammy Small, the Clinical Manager of Emergency for the Espanola Regional Hospital has 32 years of nursing experience.
She says these days have been some of the most challenging with COVID-19.
As a nurse with over 32 years of experience, she says COVID-19 has meant taking those traditions and modernizing them to meet the challenges.
To that end, she says staff has undergone intense retraining over the last three months adding digital medicine also makes a big difference.
Small says the way they are doing things has changed, but the staff is well prepared.
She adds Espanola should be proud of its nurses and health care staff, as well as how progressive the hospital is being one of the first to have many electronic and digital services.
Canadians are being asked to shine a light this evening in remembrance of Nightingale, the famous lady with the lamp.
The request is in recognition of the World Health Organization designating 2020 as International Year of the Nurse and Midwife to mark the bicentenary of Florence Nightingale’s birth May 12th, 1820.
