Community gardens are a go

People who have a green thumb or want to grow one are being given the opportunity to participate in community garden programs.

Earlier this week, Minister of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs, Ernie Hardman announced that planting in community gardens will be allowed but COVID-19 protocols must be met.

Espanola Gardeners spokesperson, Grant Lewis says that is great news when it comes to maintaining Algoma Gardens.

He says they have tools available if needed and new members will receive a key to the gate.

Lewis says there are a limited number of plots left, which cost $20 each and include a membership to the local horticultural group.

He adds only three people are allowed on the site at one time and all must maintain the two-metre distancing protocol.

Lewis says the group is also allowed to maintain its flower beds throughout the town, so anyone interested in joining in is invited to do so.

Anyone wanting more information or to purchase a plot can call Ruth Steedman at 705-869-4937.
