Tax collection modified in Elliot Lake

The City of Elliot Lake is waiving interest and penalties for taxes and water in the wake of the COVID-19 protocols.

City CAO Daniel Gagnon says the city is waiving the fees as part of its COVID-19 strategy to alleviate financial stress on residents and businesses.

For example, he explains, commercial metered water payments were due on March 23rd, but there will be no fees.

He says the first installment of municipal taxes is due on April 4th, but any late payments will not be subject to penalty or interest.

He adds, however, ratepayers can make payments via cheque in the city drop-box, regular mail or online and/or telebanking.

Gagnon stresses city staff will also work with residents and businesses to develop payment plans.
