Strike action Thursday and Friday at local schools

Two school boards will be affected by a walk-out this week.

The union that represents teaching staff in all Conseil scolaire catholique Nouvelon schools will be on strike across Ontario this Thursday.
Schools in the districts of Sudbury, Manitoulin and Algoma are affected.

And secondary schools in the Rainbow District School Board will cancel classes on Friday including Espanola High and Manitoulin Secondary due to strike action by the teachers’ union.

Meanwhile, the Elementary Teachers Federation is suspending all strike action for the next couple of weeks.

The union says it will, instead, increase its work-to-rule action, press the government on the political front, and seek support from parents.

But it’s warning that, if there’s no progress in contract talks by March 6th, it will move into the next phase of its job action.

A decision on what that will be has yet to be made, but it could include anything up to a full-scale walkout across the province.
