OPP Detachment construction well underway

Construction of the new Manitoulin Ontario Provincial Police main detachment in Little Current is well underway, on schedule and on budget.

According to Bird Construction, the site preparation work began in April of last year.

The company, which is building the Little Current site and eight others across Ontario, says it will be between 10 to 12,000 square feet in size.

The cost of constructing all nine detachments is estimated at just over $143-million dollars.

The new detachment, which will be located on Boozeneck Road will have such features as a secure functions area, holding cells, interviews room, a public foyer, administration area for staff and evidence storage vaults.

Construction is expected to be completed by late summer.
