The new CT scanner for the St. Joseph’s General Hospital in Elliot Lake will be one of the finest scanners on the market, thanks to the fundraising exceeding its goal.
Hospital CEO Pierre Ozolins told city council Monday night that the new diagnostic machine will be able to assist an average of 2,000 patients a year with three interested parties responding to their requests for proposal.
The final decision was made earlier this month.
Hospital board chair William Elliot also told council the finest machine is a reality, thanks to fundraising, with $1.8-million being raised, $200,000 more than their original goal.
However, neither could reveal the price or model as stipulated by the Ministry of Health, but it is expected to be ready for patients by late summer.
