Algoma Public Health has awarded its 2019 Algoma Public Health Champion award to Elizabeth MacMillan of Sault Ste. Marie.
Not only does MacMillan oversee the Algoma Educational Gardening, which works with local schools and daycares to teach children about growing vegetables, she has also registered a new non-profit called SKILLS.
SKILLS is aimed at developing agriculture in the city, such as greenhouses in unused spaces, especially in the downtown.
The award was presented to her last week.
