GSPS makes arrest after first homicide of 2019

The Greater Sudbury Police Service (GSPS) has made an arrest in relation to its first homicide investigation of 2019.

On Friday morning (November 15), GSPS received a call of a weapons complaint on Cedar Street. Once officers arrived on the scene, they found a 17-year-old male in critical condition as the result of a stabbing. After being transported to Health Sciences North, he passed away as a result of the injuries.

Through CCTV footage, police were able to identify and locate the accused in the incident as an 18-year-old male, who was arrested the following morning.

The information from the investigation at this point suggests this was not a random act of violence, it was a dispute between two individuals who knew each other according to police. Officers have stressed that there is no threat to the public or to the area of the incident.

Anyone with information on the case is being asked to call the Greater Sudbury Police Service at 675-9171 ext. 2320 or Crime Stoppers at 705-222-8477 or online.
