Ross Romano, the MPP for Sault Ste Marie, announced Friday $105,454.00 in funding towards Seniors Active Living Programs.
The investment is part of the $14.1 million in total funding for 2019/2020 to support more than 300 Seniors Active Living Centre programs in communities across the province.
“Making investments in programs and services for our seniors that support their health and well-being is becoming more and more important in places like Sault Ste. Marie,” said Romano. “Not only do these programs provide opportunities for seniors to engage in many social activities, but also promote living an active and healthy lifestyle.”
According to the province, Seniors Active Living Centre programs support over 100,000 seniors across the province, and this funding will provide a variety of programming and activities to help seniors stay active, socially engaged, safe, and healthy. The government considers this rather important as they say 30 per cent of Canadian seniors are at risk of becoming socially isolated.
“Our government made a commitment to protect what matters most to the people of Ontario. Today’s announcement not only supports our seniors today but is an investment into all of our futures,” continued Romano. “Places like the Seniors Drop-In Centre do incredible work within the Sault, and I look forward to seeing all the great programming and services they provide in our community.”
