Marchisella: Elliot Lake City Hall needs social media policy

Elliot Lake city council will most likely establish a social media policy when it comes to online posting by city employees.  At the recent Good Roads Association meeting in Toronto, Mayor Dan Marchisella learned many municipalities don’t have a policy.  But he says there’s a growing need for this because there are protocols employees must follow.  Marchisella says it’s fine that city employees may not like all the decisions of council.  But he adds it’s their job to carry out the direction council sets out.  Before the Elliot Lake Centre for Development closed, one of its employees shared a Facebook message on another site.  She was disciplined for this because council thought of her as a City employee.
