Like its other counterparts, Elliot Lake council has to deal with unlicensed fly-by-night businesses, street vendors or buskers coming to the city.
The recommendation to develop a licence policy was presented to the council by the city’s Economic Development Advisory Committee this week.
Councillor Chris Patrie says it is a priority to protect people in the municipality from businesses that don’t operate legally.
Often when someone uses such a company, they end up overpaying or having no recourse if the work is sub-standard.
Council agreed to send the recommendation to staff who will develop a comprehensive licensing system for the council’s review.
