Pearson Plaza’s public washrooms have been closed down due to vandalism, but the city, which is one of the tenants, is trying to find a solution.
Last Wednesday, McCowan and Associates in Barrie, the owners of the building, closed off the entire food court area, including access to the public washrooms.
Elliot Lake CAO Daniel Gagnon said the city is concerned about the washrooms being closed in a building that also houses several other businesses and the public library.
It is also a stopping point for many people who use it for public transit
He says the owners cite a record of vandalism and the lack of tenants in the immediate area as their reasoning but the city was not consulted.
The city is exploring all options within the lease or otherwise, to find a solution.
