Blind River council exploring options for tourist information centre

Blind River council wants more time to look at various options when it comes to the tourist information centre.

The centre located on Highway 17 needs a major repair or retrofit estimated at around $170,000.

However, the council deferred a motion tabled by Mayor Sally Hagman last week to explore more options.

Statistics from the Ministry of Transportation indicates the number of people stopping in has declined, so the council is wrestling whether it would be worthwhile to keep the centre open or look at other tourism initiatives.

Council will host further discussions and is expected to make a final resolution at the next council meeting.
