Sudbury and area says good-bye to matriarch

The Fielding family, well known throughout the Sudbury and Manitoulin districts, has lost its matriarch.
A well-known philanthropist, Lily Fielding passed away late last week at the age of 103.

Not only was she a matriarch, she and her late husband, Clifford, but were also known for their generosity to the larger community.

Her husband established Fisher Wavy on the North Shore and also financed the salvage of Franklin D. Roosevelt’s mail plane from McGregor Bay, which is now housed at the museum in Manitowaning.

She also established Kivi Park in Sudbury and was generous in her support of Laurentian University.

More than 225 people packed the Church of the Epiphany in Sudbury to attend her funeral on Monday.
