The provincial Liberals have signed an agreement that ensures Aboriginal communities will benefit from the Ring of Fire development. The deal involves nine First Nations near the Ring of Fire chromite discovery and among other things it ensures revenue sharing. Development of the Ring of Fire has stalled but the framework agreement could start the ball rolling again. The discovery is the largest chromite find ever in North America and could be worth $60-billion.
