Mantha calls on Minister of Health to reconsider social services amalgamation

Algoma-Manitoulin MPP Mike Mantha is strongly urging the Ford government not to amalgamate several services.

Mantha is especially concerned with social services such as public health in northern Ontario. The Ford government has been moving towards amalgamating several services, such as public health and now their focus is on social services.

He says the government is looking at restructuring the Algoma District Administration Board, which would mean the district communities would have fewer staff members, ultimately affecting service levels.

He adds its counterpart in Sudbury-Manitoulin would face the same challenges.

The social services boards deliver and provide oversight of vital social and paramedic services to the communities within its jurisdiction.

Mantha is calling on Christine Elliot, Ontario’s Minister of Health, to reconsider the decision and leave the service boundaries in place.
