The chair of the Elliot Lake Centre for Development believes city council over-reacted by trying to shutdown the agency. And Tom Farquhar says an apology could have avoided a public mess. Farquhar says two weeks ago councillors Scot Reinhardt and Connie Nykyforak bullied one of his employees over protocol. He posted the incident on Facebook which a senior employee also shared with another site with permission. However Farquhar says City Hall did not take kindly to the shared post and tried to get rid of the senior employee. He says that didn’t work and matters just escalated with a council order that all employees would be let go as well as the board of directors before their mandate was up March 31st. Farquhar says the board and employees are holding their ground because they say they are not city workers. The board continues to operate and the centre employees are still on site. Meanwhile Farquhar says the OPP are investigating the bullying incident involving the city councillors but adds he’s not sure where police are at with their investigation.
