The City of Elliot Lake has reached an agreement with the owners of the former site of Turner’s in the Pearson Plaza with Elections Canada.
City Cao, Daniel Gagnon, says the city is obligated, as a tenant, to pay $10,000 a month to the landlord, McCowan and Associates, since Turner’s abandoned the business in early Spring.
Gagnon says the city had entered the agreement to assist the business back in 2015, but Turner’s went bankrupt in May.
Gagnon says the landlord has agreed to the space being sub-let to Elections Canada for $9,000 a month for a 90-day period starting September 1st.
Gagnon adds the search for a long-term tenant continues.
