An Elliot Lake councilor says he did not ask for the Integrity Commissioner to investigate a complaint alleging Elliot Lake Mayor Dan Marchisella stood to gain from a friendship with AstroRabbit Entertainment owner, Corey Mackenzie.
Rather, Councilor Chris Patrie says it was a code of conduct matter and he is still seeking legal advice on the matter.
However, City CAO Daniel Gagnon says the Integrity Commissioner has the authority to decide what complaints should be investigated further.
He says once the report, whether it is a code of conduct matter or complaint makes no difference, once the report is sent to the commissioner, they have the authority to handle the matter as they see fit.
Marchisella concurs with Gagnon saying it is the commissioner’s prerogative.
As a result of this complaint and other pending investigations, the council agreed to host a special meeting on September 12th at 6:00 pm with Integrity Commissioner Peggy Young-Lovelace and investigators from E4M.
