Roof concerns in Espanola and Elliot Lake

Both municipalities of Espanola and Elliot Lake are wrestling with roofing problems at their recreational facilities.

Both had to employ snow load removers this past winter and had a complete analysis done of their respective structures at the Centennial Arena and the Espanola Regional Recreation Complex.

Elliot Lake council approved a bid from Buildcor of Timmins for nearly $85,000 to fix the facia at the arena, which will also seal the building for at least five years preventing further damage and stopping birds from getting inside.

Meanwhile, Espanola council is looking at a repair job of around $300,000 due to condensation problems in the steel beams and to reseal the barrier to prevent leaks.

Council will be considering the major expenditure as part of the 2020 budget.
