Espanola Council adopts new video surveillance policy

A new video surveillance policy was given approval by Espanola council.

In late Spring, council was informed video and audio surveillance was being carried out at the Espanola Regional Recreation Complex, but the policy didn’t meet updated legal requirements.

Councilor Maureen Vanalstine moved to have the audio surveillance immediately stopped and asked staff to update the policy in regards to video coverage.

Town CAO Cynthia Townsend says the new policy includes a daily logging report, cataloging date and time of video recordings and a yearly review of the policy.

She adds audio surveillance is no longer allowed.
