Elliot Lake councilor considers Integrity Commissioner wasteful

An Elliot Lake councilor accused of conflict of interest says the investigation by the Integrity Commissioner was a waste.

Councilor Chris Patrie alleged Councilor Luc Cyr had a conflict of interest when he sat in on a meeting where the purchase of the Algo Mall was discussed since he is a litigant involved in the collapse of the building.

However, Cyr told council he had contacted the Commissioner prior to the meeting who assured him there was no conflict in his attendance.

Cyr adds he finds it wasteful of taxpayer’s hard-earned monies that the city was placed in the predicament of acquiring additional expense to have reviewed a report that was already cleared by the Commissioner.

Council accepted the finding that there was no conflict with no comment from Patrie.
