Detachment commander to oversee policing in Espanola and Manitoulin Island

The Ontario Provincial Police have finalized the formalities in promoting Inspector Megan Cavanaugh as Detachment Commander of the Manitoulin OPP Detachment effective April 15th.

She will also oversee policing in Espanola following the switch from municipal to provincial policing last fall.

Inspector Cavanagh says she is committed to public safety and delivery innovative and proactive policing the large area now covered by the detachment, which extends to Rainy River to the north.

She started her career back in 1993 and has worked her way up the ranks at various detachments in both south and Northern Ontario.

In 2010, Inspector Cavanaugh was promoted to the rank of Sergeant at the Bancroft Detachment. In 2015, Inspector Cavanaugh was promoted to Staff Sergeant and served as the Detachment Commander for the Superior East Detachment which includes Wawa, White River, Chapleau and Hornepayne. In 2018 and 2019, Inspector Cavanaugh had the opportunity to serve as acting Detachment Commander in both James Bay Detachments and the Manitoulin Detachment before being promoted to Inspector for the Manitoulin OPP Detachment.
