Possible rebuild of Centennial Arena

Centennial Arena was closed permanently just a couple of weeks ago when building inspectors declared the building derelict, but there is some optimism about it being revamped and re-opened.

The roof truss system was breaking down and no longer safe, and repairs were estimated to cost well over half-a-million dollars.

However, City CAO Daniel Gagnon told council Sprung Instant Structures of Calgary is in the city to talk to engineering consultants, Tulloch Engineering, about different options.

The best one so far, strip the building down to pad and ice plant and rebuild using pre-engineered materials.

The review is underway, but the cost of the endeavor is not known, so council will not be making any final decisions until the final report is presented.
