Major renovations planned for Manitoulin Secondary

Manitoulin Secondary School is undergoing a massive renovation and when complete, students might have a hard time recognizing it.

Among the upgrades, the school is getting is an updated science lab, agricultural classroom and relocated library with new technology.

Work also involves modernizing the cafeteria with round tables, café style seating and a lounge area for conversation or quiet study.

The completed renovation will also see a multi-purpose cultural room in the heart of the school with a new Three Fires Indigenous student space and central open area for ceremonies, smudging, drumming, storytelling and teaching.

The changes begin right at the school’s front entrance with heavy timber framing the front doors, a fireplace in the foyer, wooden ceiling beams and a welcoming area lit by natural lighting.

MSS is celebrating its 50th anniversary this year.
