UPDATE; Ministry expands flood warningMinistry issues flood warning for Blind River region

UPDATE: The Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry has issued a flood watch for a wide area until Friday, May 3.

Residents of Sudbury, Alban, Markstay-Warren, Wanup, St. Charles, Espanola, Manitoulin Island, areas of the North-shore, including Blind River, and the unorganized Townships south of Sudbury, are encouraged to keep a close watch on conditions, check for media updates and avoid fast-moving rivers and streams.

Some low lying areas already flooded in the Blind River area.

While the majority of the snowpack has disappeared from the southern part of the district and urban areas, MNRF in a press release said there is still snow in wooded and northern regions of local watersheds that pose a flood risk.

Watersheds had begun to decrease, but are likely to increase this week due to recent precipitation on the ongoing melt.

MNRF said that as a result, there is a potential to see localized flooding in some low-lying areas.

At this time, MNRF said that local streams and river are still elevated but remain within seasonal norms.
