Ontario to announce $1.6B to save teaching jobs
Teaching jobs aren’t expected to be lost in Ontario when class sizes expand. The provincial government is expected to announce $1.6 billion towards attrition protection Friday. There were fears that jobs would be lost when it was announced class sizes were expected to go from 22 students to 28 over the next four years.
Boy found safe after Amber Alert issued
There was a happy ending to an amber alert in Southern Ontario. The alert was issued late Thursday afternoon and the five-year-old boy was found safe with his mother at a KFC in Chatham-Kent. Police say they were located around 5:30 p.m. at the Tilbury restaurant, 300 km from where they were last seen in Mississauga. No charges have been laid yet. Police added they were able to locate the boy specifically because of the Amber Alert system.
Crackdown on drivers who pass stopped school buses
Ontario is trying to make roadways safer for students. The province is promising to crack down on drivers who pass school buses loading or unloading kids. The government plans on creating legislation to make video admissible in court. Right now the school bus driver has to be present or the case gets thrown out.
Everyone told to avoid places of worship in Sri Lanka
Muslims in Sri Lanka are being urged to pray at home out of fear of relation for the Easter weekend bombings. The U.S. embassy is also asking citizens to avoid places of worship in general because there could be more attacks targeting religious centres. The country’s president says police are still looking for 140 people believed to have links with ISIS.
