City (Elliot Lake) is $75,000 over budget on snow removal

Snow removal has proven to be expensive for the City of Elliot Lake.

Elliot Lake’s CAO Daniel Gagnon informed council so far the city has spent around $75,000 more than budgeted this year to pay for the removal of snow and ice from municipal buildings.

The move came following the February roof collapse of the north wing of the Lester B. Pearson Community Centre caused by the heavy buildup of snow and ice.

He added the museum in the lower level remains mostly intact and some heating has been restored to mitigate damage.

Gagnon adds the snow removal is nearly complete and an inspection of the damage was also done, so both reports are expected to be presented to council in the near future.
