Espanola council hiring Integrity Commissioner

A southern Ontario lawyer will be approached to see if he would like to be named Integrity Commissioner for the Town of Espanola.

Council reviewed four legal firms with pricing ranging from $540 to over $2,000 an hour with one firm from Iron Bridge, another from Sudbury and two from the south.

Experience was also an important condition in council making its decision to go with Robert G. Swayze of Alton, who was called to the bar in 1967.

After 40 years in municipal law, Swayze landed his first integrity commissioner job in Oakville in 2008. Five years later, he added several other municipalities including Mississauga, Port Hope and Carleton Place.

Swayze will now be contacted to see if he will accept a one-year contract with the town.
