Espanola’s 8th Annual Fibre Arts Festival receives OAC funding

The Ontario Arts Council has provided yet another Craft Projects – Connection Grant OF $10,000 to the Espanola 8th Annual Fibre Arts Festival.

Festival and volunteer coordinator, Jody Pilon, says the funding will allow for contracting with knowledgeable teachers and fibre masters.
The only festival of its kind in Ontario, it features all forms of fibre including fabric, wood, yarn, paper and natural materials.

Chairperson Keitha Kozachanko says visitors will be treated to a variety of Ukrainian heritage crafts, a visit from the Holodomor Mobile Classroom, several workshops, demonstrations and the highly anticipated annual Makers’ Market.

It will be held October 16th to the 21st.

Additional community support will be necessary in terms of financial sponsorship and the many volunteer hours required to host the five days of festival activities and events.

Kozachanko adds, “back by popular demand, textile artist, Susan Lenz, will be visiting from South Carolina offering her two day ‘Hot’ workshop.

“Festival 2018 saw all workshops and fibre craft recitals at capacity and we are expecting the same again this year,” she added.

It is hoped there will be 2,000 people taking in this year’s event.

“Vendor applications and workshop registrations will begin in the next two weeks,” adds Kozachanko.
